Female Appointees seek more women participation in Governance, meets Women Affairs Minister

The African Young Female Advisers Initiative on Tuesday 15th of September paid a courtesy visit to the Honorable Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Her Excellency, Pauline Kedem Tallen OFR at the ministry’s secretariat 

 The President of the Association and Special Adviser to the executive chairman of Abuja Municipal areal council Mrs Abiodun Essiet who led the association during the courtesy call, in her open remarks stated that the visit was to intimate the Minister on the activities of the Association and further create a better working relationship with the ministry focusing on inclusion of women at all levels of governance and sectors.

 The Secretary of the association, Ms Adaora Onyechere and Senior Special Assistant in Information and Advocacy to The Governor of Imo state (fmr) during the visit appreciated and commended the Minister’s move on raising the bar in the fight against Sexual gender-based violence (SGBV) and adding her voice on the legal consequences for offenders.

The Communication Manager and Special Adviser on Skill acquisition to the governor of Zamfara state Hon. Amina Liyasu also commended the Minister for her role towards advocating on the priority of gender mainstreaming in public office.

The Legal Adviser of the association and special assistant on legal matters to the governor of Kaduna state Barr. Rabi Adamu also stated the need to continue the advocacy on inclusion so more women can take primary positions in politics.

The Public relations officer of the association and the Legal Research and policy assistant to the Hon. Min of state for transportation Titilope Anifowoshe Esq emphasized on the need for mentoring for young women early in other to have the requisite experience for public office and decision making.

Members of the association took turns to commend the Minister and also requested for more cooperation between the Ministry and women activities in the nation.

In response, the Minister pledged to continue supporting women inclusion at all level of policy making, visibility and participation in politics. In her magnanimous self, she encouraged the association not to relent in pursuing the role of nation builders and adding value in all they do and where they find themselves as change makers. She further promised to personally write a letter of commendation to all state Governors who have given AYFAI members an opportunity in their cabinets.

The President in appreciation said “We are here to also say thank you for the continuous support women have enjoyed from you so far,” as she urged her to continue to mentor the younger generation among other inclusive action to be undertaken by her.
