PASSAGE OF THE PIB: A welcome development

Your Excellency, Timipre Sylva, the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum, I want to use this medium to once again congratulate you and your ministry on the passage of Petroleum Industry Bill known as PIB which comes exactly 13 years after it was first presented to the National Assembly in 2008.

It is a reassuring development knowing this document has the input of both the Executive and Legislature.

In the light of this, one must acknowledge the 5% consideration given to host communities and how this will enhance the livelihood of women and children as well as other beneficiaries.

A take home is that, The Bill seeks to introduce changes to the governance, administrative, regulatory, and fiscal framework of the Nigerian oil and gas industry, in order to ensure transparency, strengthen the governing institutions, and attract investment capital, among other objectives.

Sir, May we continue to witness landmark achievements in your ministry as we look forward to holistic and pragmatic steps towards implementation of The PIB Bill.
